city to surf 2010

woke up bright and early today for CITY TO SURF! pow, jerry and i are joining the 12km run. and like the name of the event suggests... we're running from the city to the beach.
assembly point at 9am.

runner 19158 : jerry

runner 19174 : pow

and of course me.. runner 19168.

trucks = bag deposit
because the start and end point isn't the same..
so they will drive our belongings to city beach.

interesting people in perth...

and we're finally reaching the start..

slope... or should i say slopes.

the weather may be nicer to run in... but the number of slopes we had to climb doesn't make it any easier.
yayy!!

see all the people running at the back.. they're cheating! we stuck to the designated path.

last 100m.. the end is near.

yes yes yes!

finishers! (:

really happy that pow ran with me.. thanks dear!

free powerade.
i'm singaporean.. so just take lor. pow took 3 bottles ok.

carnival area.

since we're all the way at city beach.. we decided to go for a walk.

good thing about the event is that they provide free transport.. back to the starting point at least.
crowd waiting for the free shuttle back to city.

i'm a little burnt.. at the shoulders and back of the neck. probably due to the string of outdoor events this weekend. oh, i haven't mentioned... friday was ultimate with the HM(human movement)-ers, saturday was sand surfing at lancelin and then city to surf today. yea.. i think i almost killed myself from exhaustion. photos from lancelin will be up soon.. it's just taking a while because i might have spoiled my camera and i'm emo-ing about it. stupid fine sand at lancelin... jammed my camera lens!!! ): but besides that, it was really fun. let's pray that my camera can be fixed.

marathon updates

results and photos are out. my official timing... 8hours 36 minutes!! *TA-DAH* alright.. it ain't an awesome achievement. but still, to have completed a marathon is a personal feat.. even if i walked about 25km of it.

tim showed me my results today morning. i have no idea how he found it without knowing my bib number though. thanks tim.. you're great.

this is one person i really need to thank. i can't imagine what a bore it must be for gabriel to have to walk for over 8 hours. but he was really sporting..

struggling with my feet, calves, hams and glutes aching.

my 'glorious' finish!

(very slow) finisher of 42.195km!

my first ever marathon. it was dreadful!! but that's my fault because i barely trained. after i registered, i still ran occasionally. then the past 2 months, i totally didn't make the effort to run.. due to work and some stuff. the most common thing i hear about marathons is that it's more of a mental game rather than a physical one. but for me.. it's more physical than mental. my legs gave way before i even came to the half-way mark. thank you gabriel for 'leaving no man behind'. really couldn't do it without his company and encouragement. once again, thanks bro! it's still an experience.. just a rather horrid one. but still can get quite high.. especially when i 'ran' across the finish line. oh, saw quite a few people along the way. well, mostly because they overtook me.. haha. saw frank, tzehui, wenrui, wilson and slyvia(fellow rafflesian.. whom i didn't recognise until we stared at each other for 5 seconds). saw kiewu along the way too.. he was helping out. there was a middle-aged couple that we chatted with along the way.. because the lady's legs were cramping too. i think it's very sweet to try to do a marathon together with someone special.. even if it hurts like hell. guess it's just for the experience.. like the lady said, "do it once and for all".

end of the day.. i did managed to achieve what i set out to do, get the finisher tee. (:

my body hates me

it's the first sunday of a new month. morning run with fifthray as normal, only today.. i've reduced the distance to 6km in consideration of the dragonboat outing. serene came to help out and i sort of mentioned dragonboat to her. she's asking if i'm interested to row with her club. *hmmm* i'm actually quite keen about it. but fret not, i'm not going to end up with "arms bigger than your thighs". it's just for fun. good chance to get tanned too.. hee! (yes, that's actually one of my main objectives) i think my body hates me slightly after today. it's not good to neglect training. i need to clock up more mileage.. like a whole lot more! my first marathon is in less than 2 months time. woohoo! raya-ing is postponed to next week. can't wait to see my girls again. oh, and damien sort of hinted there's going to be a session of rockband.. i hope it's soon.

therapy and adrenaline work wonders. but now there's also other things to be concerned with. i can't ignore it even if i want to. funny thing is, it's always the same stuff, yet everytime.. i'll still be dumbfounded and not know what to do. they say you'll get it eventually. i think, if you're not sure or don't have the guts for it.. then let's not waste time 'learning'.

run baby run

standard chartered marathon. my.. took the life out of me, or my legs rather. it's definitely the craziest thing i've done so far and also my greatest achievement yet. i told myself i'll never run a marathon again.. but i might just go against my own word. thinking about it.. this marathon was more than just a run. i actually enjoyed the experience.. yes, even when i thought i was going to die of over-exhaustion along nicoll highway.. i can honestly say that i enjoyed every minute running.

the most impressionable thing about the run was this caucasian couple. they had a message on their backs saying, "because our beautiful daughter who cannot walk inspire us to try". the lady had a picture of their daughter with the message. when i read it.. i was actually going to cry. it was really touching. there were other encouraging messages too.. some very cute.

"you're not tired, it's just the lactic acid!"
" :) "
"this is my dream come true"
"no tail-gating. keep a safe distance & enjoy your run."
"for him -->"
"<--for her"

oh, another interesting thing. there was these 3 people.. probably 17-18. the girlfriend and boyfriend dressed up as a bride and groom.. then their friend as the pastor. HAHA! it was the cutest thing i ever saw. in some sense, they helped me finish the race.

finishers of 21.1km. yoohoo!

my time was horrid.. but considering i didn't train, i guess it'll do. finishing this year's marathon makes me want to go for it again next year.. just to try and better my timing. my plan.. stick to half-marathon first. but eventually, i'll want to run the full marathon at least once. oh man, i think i'm nuts.

i've been lazy. there's no more fun in blogging. but i don't want my blog to be lagging.. so i shall post a short entry today.

officially stopped ministry this week. for the first time in months, i was able to eat breakfast in the morning and be in the hall at 4pm. but something just feel amiss. engwee said i'll get used to it... but i pray i won't. i miss my kids already.. though they can be the most annoying, defient and rude lot (well, not all are bad). i didn't even bid them farewell properly because i forgot about it. =(

had 4-aside game today. my group only managed to play one game.. because of the rain. they're postponing it to next sunday.. but next week is EMERGE, how to go?! argh. we're up against PJC3 and Yuhua highfliers. well, we won our own people.. haha. that put my group in the semi-finals.. hope we win something.

proceeded to go cut hair after the match. reached alex's shop at about 1.30pm... i was only being served at 5pm. hahaha... ok lah, at around 3+pm.. he washed my hair. then i stoned for the longest time, freezing my ass off until he was free. the style is quite similar.. but he insists it's different. mummy's complaining it's too short again.. well.

emerge is next week.. yay! running 1.5km on saturday.. i really want to win.

4 tests in 3 days.. brain is overworked. don't feel like studying for the whole of next week but that's not very possible. can't be lazy anymore.. actually, it's more like 'can't procrastinate anymore'.

can't explain it but all of a sudden, the relationship between s05 and us(me, suling and hadh) has improved tremendously during this week. somehow all of us are talking to one another. it's quite nice to feel part of the class. they are even planning to make a class shirt. s29 wanted to do also, but we never really got down to it.

ms ho, new hockey coach, is making the hockey girls run 2.4km 6 days a week. we get to choose which day we want to rest. 14.4km per week.. that's like 36 rounds! however, for the sake of slim-ness.. i will do it!!! will be missing friday trainings every week from now on.. due to cg. i know cg is important.. but i really want to go for training. it'll be bad if i only show up once a week.. heard ms ho's not every happy today with the attendance.

sigh.. i'm totally drained out. sleep sleep! good night.
