after all these years

a song from way back but it sounds soooo amazing i keep listening to it.

a lot of of great aussie musicians are getting enough recognition for their awesome music, which is quite sad. i've discovered loads of them while studying/"working" in perth. you probably heard one hit from them playing on our singapore radio and then never heard their name again. like how i never knew eskimo joe was aussie until only last year! ok, that was a bad example since eskimo joe is well-known. sia is aussie too and she's amazing!

now i've found silverchair and i think they're great. pity they are playing together anymore... ): i actually heard this song on a qantas flight so i guess aussies are supporting aussies.. well done! when i first heard the chorus, i was drawn. it's been so long since i heard any music like that, why don't they make good music anymore?

safe & sound

i never considered myself a fan of taylor swift because she is somewhat bimbotic and perhaps a little too hyper. her songs are catchy and nice, and i've definitely enjoyed listening to her albums. i'm just saying i was never really a fan, not like with jay chou.

BUT, recently i heard her new single on radio and i've really been loving this song. and when i saw the music video for it, i fell in love with her. her look was totally different from the usual big hair, cat-eye eyeliner and red lips. she looked so elegant and for the first time, absolutely stunning! yes, she's always looked good.. but it isn't the type of look i appreciate. if this is taylor swift grown up, i will probably convert and be a fan. her voice is amazing, there's no doubt about it. her live performances are really good and to me, that's very important if you want to call yourself a singer.

i really love her new look! hair, makeup, everything. i think she looks less slutty without the thick eyeliner.. haha! i'm not trying to be mean.. i'm just saying. (: and this is just such a beautiful song.. great harmonies with joy and john paul of the civil wars. somebody please teach me the tabs to this song. i promise to practice plucking!

here's the official music video for safe & sound.. enjoy!

i remember tears streaming down your face
when i said i'll never let you go
when all those shadows almost killed your light
i remember you said don't leave me here alone
but all that's dead and gone and passed tonight

just close your eyes, the sun is going down
you'll be alright, no one can hurt you now
come morning light, you and i'll be safe and sound

don't you dare look out your window
darling, everything's on fire
the war outside our door keeps raging on
hold on to this lullaby
even when the music's gone

just close your eyes, the sun is going down
you'll be alright, no one can hurt you now
come morning light, you and i'll be safe and sound

a thousand years - christina perri

so i'm finally back in touch with technology and the internet. oh how i've missed you! watching youtube on my iphone is no fun at all. anyway, HAPPY 2012 everybody! i didn't get to celebrate christmas and new years which made me a little down. december is my favourite time of the year because of all the celebrations and time that i get to spend with loved ones. well, i guess there's always next year right.

so beside watching a million and one movies on HBO and US dramas on FOX, i started reading twilight. before you say anything, yes i know. how slow can i be?! i've never really caught the twilight craze even after watching the movie. in the first place, i only watched the movie because of robert pattinson. but as the story progresses, questions started coming up because i didn't read the book. i think it's a little too much for my sister so she lent me the whole series to read. i'm still halfway through the first book and i will say that i am enjoying it much more than i expected to. now i just want to quickly finish reading all the books and re-watch the movies again. maybe i'll have a better appreciation for the movie second time round.

people kept talking about the 'twilight song' and i've always thought they meant "it will rain" by bruno mars. i only went to google "a thousand years" when i saw a tweet about it being the 'twilight song'.. and it's a really nice song. honestly, i'd think this song is so much more appropriate as the theme song for breaking dawn than the bruno mars one. i know we've all watched it before, but here it is so enjoy.

那些年,我们一起追的女孩

it's been a long while since my last movie. having said that, this movie i just watched was also a very random one. i haven't heard of this movie at all and only went to watch it because my cousin asked to. i'm not one for surprises, especially not when weekend tickets are $10. but, i absolutely enjoyed this movie. haven't seen such a endearing romance film in quite a while.

青春是一场大雨。即使感冒了,还盼望回头再淋它一次。

this story is based on Giddens Ko(九把刀) own experience with a girl he used to like alot. he wrote it into a novel which subsequently made it to he big screen. i won't bore you with the synopsis since you can easily google or wiki that up. i'll just say that it's nice to know in reality, not all love stories have a fairytale ending. i'm sure we all have that special guy or girl in our hearts whom we will never forget.

the english title is "you are the apple of my eye" and i really recommend everyone to go watch it. yes, it's just another love story but it's also not just about falling in love. somehow this movie really brings me back to my jc days, when eyecandies and silly infatuations first grew on me. it is true that the best part of a relationship is during the courtship period, but if it never becomes a relationship you won't actually think that way. back then when i had my little crushes, i always thought how happy i'd be if the guy also told me he liked me. all these puppy love that never made it to a proper relationship will always just be sweet memories to me.

i guess i'm lucky enough because there was finally a guy i liked who told me he liked me too and that was probably the main reason why i said yes when he asked me to be his girlfriend. suddenly the long list of what my future ideal boyfriend is going to be was thrown out of the door.. the stuff about, 'he must be older than me', 'he must be tall', blah blah blah.. that all didn't seem to exist at that moment. in the movie, the girl was so ready to say yes but the guy didn't ask. in the end they never got together and eventually she married someone else. so guys, next time you like a girl, just ask her. unless you are content to just to be part of her memory instead.

and because i really like this movie, i came home and googled about it. can you believe this guy (柯震东) is only 20 and the actress (陈妍希) is 28?! i'm really impressed man. and he even won the best newcomer award at this year's golden horse awards! definitely a movie to add to my dvd collection. (:

and coincidentally, i actually heard the main theme song for this movie without realising. last thursday night, doh and keane organized overnight mj. keane left this song playing on repeat so that his computer won't sleep. haha! so yea, i listened to this song the entire night and it did slowly grow on me. when the movie ended and the starting melody came on, i was like, "omg, it can't be!". everything just sort of came together nicely.. haha. the lyrics is actually very sweet. if i were 沈佳宜, i would be really touched.

don't-know-what-to-put-so-anyhow-type-words-in-title-box post

i've been so dead when it comes to blogging this year. it used to be so much fun and i always finding myself writing entries even when i'm tired. i have no idea where all that energy went. maybe into my new hobby... makeup! (:

but anyway, i do feel like i want to start up my blog again. (although i don't think i will bother to change the layout and all just yet) i miss penning down my thoughts and going around with my camera snapping things i want to blog about. i realised i've missed out on alot of 'me' time lately. well, more like even since i came back to singapore. which partially explains why i haven't been blogging. it's definitely good to be back home but the pace of life here is really crazy fast! about 1-2 months ago, i started missing australia. i miss it so much that i seriously thought i could stay there forever. yea.. not very realistic i know. then hopefully i can at least get another 2 years there.. *fingers crossed*

here's a new favourite song of mine to kickstart this new entry...

Thieves by She & Him

zooey deschanel is my new idol.. ok, not exactly. but i really envy her (because her husband is DCFC's frontman). and who don't like pretty girls.. c'mon.

mumford & sons

the cave
it's empty in the valley of your heart
the sun it rises slowly as you walk
away from all the fears
and all the faults you've left behind

the harvest left no food for you to eat
you cannibal, you meat-eater, you see
but i have seen the same
i know the shame in your defeat

but i will hold on hope
and i won't let you choke
on the noose around your neck
and i'll find strength in pain
and i will change my ways
i'll know my name as it's called again

cause i have other things to fill my time
you take what is yours and i'll take mine
now let me at the truth
which will refresh my broken mind

so tie me to a post and block my ears
i can see widows and orphans through my tears
i know my call despite my faults
and despite my growing fears

but i will hold on hope
and i won't let you choke
on the noose around your neck
and i'll find strength in pain
and i will change my ways
i'll know my name as it's called again

so come out of your cave walking on your hands
and see the world hanging upside down
you can understand dependence
when you know the maker's hand

so make your siren's call
and sing all you want
i will not hear what you have to say

cause i need freedom now
and i need to know how
to live my life as it's meant to be

but i will hold on hope
and i won't let you choke
on the noose around your neck
and i'll find strength in pain
and i will change my ways
i'll know my name as it's called again

my current favourite band. because they're talented and make great music. seriously, i was seriously worried that our radio will be taken over by 'singers' singing 'songs' like billionaire. oh, and ke$ha is guilty of that too. here's to all the real musicians out there.

white blank page
can you lie next to her
and give her your heart, your heart
as well as your body
and can you lie next to her
and confess your love, your love
as well as your folly
and can you kneel before this king
and say i'm clean, i'm clean

but tell me now where was my fault
in loving you with my whole heart
oh tell me now where was my fault
in loving you with my whole heart

a white blank page and a swelling rage, rage
you did not think when you sent me to the brink, the brink
you desired my attention but denied my affections, my affections

but tell me now where was my fault
in loving you with my whole heart
oh tell me now where was my fault
in loving you with my whole heart

lead me to the truth and i will follow you with my whole life
lead me to the truth and i will follow you with my whole life

but tell me now where was my fault, in loving you with my whole heart.

the prayer

the most beautiful song ever. heard it on "so you think you can dance (australia)".. it was used in a contemporary routine. when i heard the song as the dancers danced to it, it was super magical. i couldn't find a clear video of the duet by celion dion and andrea bocelli.. but josh groban sounds just as good.

i pray you'll be our eyes and watch us where we go
and help us to be wise, in times when we don't know
let this be our prayer when we lose our way
lead us to a place, guide us with your grace
to a place where we'll be safe

i pray we'll find your light
and hold it in our hearts
when stars go out each night
let this be our prayer
when shadows fill our day
lead us to a place, guide us with your grace
give us faith so we'll be safe

we ask that life be kind
and watch us from above
we hope each soul will find
another soul to love

let this be our prayer (let this be our prayer)
just like every child (just like every child)
need to find a place, guide us with your grace
give us faith so we'll be safe

my internet is recently up. yea, i've moved again. but my new house is pretty awesome, especially my room. only down side is that it's in the suburb.. well, goodbye city life. anyway, back to my room.. it's huge! like really huge.. it's bigger than any of my previous rooms and the rent is so much cheaper! it's huge to the extent that i can even put a mini fridge and tv if i wanted to.. besides the king-size bed and table that's already there. oh.. and i have a walk-in wardrobe. see! i told you my room is awesome. (:

3rd year is slightly more hectic than 2nd, hence my lack of updates. there's less contact time but now we have prac hours to clock. and i think by now, i'm pretty used to not having internet.. so it'll take a while before my habit of blogging gets back on track. i'll post pictures up soon.. there's tons of them but i'm a little lazy right now.

on another note, i miss my friends (you know who you are). wish i can be there for them when they need me.. i just hope i'm not forgotten.

cheryl cole

never knew ashley cole had such a pretty singer wife.. well, and he is a really stupid man to cheat on his wife (don't worry, i'm not going to mention jack neo). my latest favourite song.. parachute. very addicitve.. her new single also very nice. i think will.i.am is a music genius.

sorry. i will be back with a proper post. (:

i don't believe you

new song by pink. this is my favourite song so far from her 'funhouse' album. she's really quite an amazing singer.

i don’t mind it, i don’t mind at all
it’s like you’re the swing set
and i’m the kid that falls
it’s like the way we fight
the times i’ve cried
we come to blows
and every night the passion is there
so it’s got to be right
right?

no i don’t believe you
when you say don’t come around here no more
i won’t remind you
you said we wouldn’t be apart
no i don’t believe you
when you say you don’t need me anymore
so don’t pretend to not love me at all

i don’t mind it, i still don’t mind at all
it’s like one of those bad dreams
when you can’t wake up
it looks like you’ve given up
you’ve had enough
but i want more, no i won't stop
because i just know you’ll come around
right?

no i don’t believe you
when you say don’t come around here no more
i won’t remind you
you said we wouldn’t be apart
no i don’t believe you
when you say you don’t need me anymore
so don’t pretend to not love me at all
just don’t stand there and watch me fall
because i, because i still don’t mind at all

it’s like the way we fight
the times i’ve cried
we come to blows
and every night the passion is there
so it’s got to be right
right?

no i don’t believe you
when you say don’t come around here no more
i won’t remind you
you said we wouldn’t be apart
no i don’t believe you
when you say you don’t need me anymore
so don’t pretend to not love me at all
i don’t believe you

you're not sorry

by taylor swift, from her 'fearless' album. very sad break-up song.. alot of feelings in it. i can imagine how painful it is to be going through one. but for my case, i know my worry is completely uncalled for. (:

now i'm listening to taylor swift's whole album. ha! i couldn't find the official music video but this live performance was pretty good.. it's just missing the 2nd stenza. oh.. er you can start watching from 1:30 to go straight to the song.

all this time i was wasting, hoping you would come around
i've been giving out chances every time
and all you do is let me down
and it's taking me this long
baby but i figured you out
and you're thinking we'll be fine again
but not this time around

you don't have to call anymore
i won't pick up the phone
this is the last straw
don't want to hurt anymore
and you can say that you're sorry
but i don't believe you baby
like i did before
you're not sorry, no no no

looking so innocent
i might believe you if i didn't know
could've loved you all my life
if you hadn't left me waiting in the cold
and you got your share of secrets
and i'm tired of being last to know
and now you're asking me to listen
cause it's worked each time before

but you don't have to call anymore
i won't pick up the phone
this is the last straw
don't want to hurt anymore
and you can tell me that you're sorry
but i don't believe you baby
like i did before
you're not sorry, no no
you're not sorry, no no

you had me falling for you honey
and it never would've gone away, no
you used to shine so bright
but i watched all of it fade

so you don't have to call anymore
i won't pick up the phone
this is the last straw
there's nothing left to beg for
and you can tell me that you're sorry
but i don't believe you baby
like i did before
you're not sorry, no no
you're not sorry, no no

if a song could get me you

nice happy song.. very cute video. it's going to be on my current playlist for weeks.

by marit larsen

i could try with a waltz
i could try rock’n'roll
i could try with the blues
if a song would do

i could sing it high or low
when i let you go, you know
i thought it was for the best
now it is so obvious

so here it is, here it goes
i could try it, rock’n'roll
change-your-life-forever-tune
if a song could get me you
i could make it high or low
sing it on the radio
if that is what i need to do
if a song could get me you

i could run for miles and miles
i’d take off and i’d start flying
i could cross land and sea
if you’d just believe me

i should not have hurt you so
this old house is not a home
without you here, there’s no use
i’ve got no time left to lose

so here it is, here it goes
i could try it, rock’n'roll
change-your-life-forever-tune
if a song could get me you
i could make it high or low
sing it on the radio
if that is what i need to do
if a song could get me you

if a song could get me through
i’d sing my way right back to you
tell me how to make it right
tell me now, i’ll start tonight

i know i could make it last
i swear to you that if i knew
what i was getting myself into
i wouldn’t answer to my fears
i’d never leave you standing there

just look at me

if you’d only see me
i would prove my love for you
i could swallow half the moon
just tell me where, tell me when
i will have you back again

yeah, here it is, here it goes
i could try it, rock’n'roll
change-your-life-forever-tune
if a song could get me you
i could make it high or low
sing it on the radio
if that is what i need to do
if a song could get me you

the last day on earth

heard this song during an episode review of 'neighbours' (crappy aussie drama), liked it the first time i heard it.

by kate miller-heidke

look down, the ground below is crumbling
look up, the stars are all exploding

it's the last day on earth
in my dreams, in my dreams
it's the end of the world
and you've come back to me
in my dreams

between the dust and the debris
there's a light surrounding you and me

it's the last day on earth
in my dreams, in my dreams
it's the end of the world
and you've come back to me
in my dreams

and you hold me closer than i
can ever remember being held
i'm not afraid to sleep now
if we can stay like this until

it's the last day on earth
in my dreams, in my dreams
it's the end of the world
and you've come back to me
in my dreams

in my head i replay our conversations
over and over till they feel like hallucinations
you know me, i love to lose my mind
and every time anybody speaks your name
i still feel the same
i ache, i ache, i ache inside

the way i am

by ingrid michaelson.

if you were falling, then i would catch you
you need a light, i'd find a match
'cause i love the way you say good morning
and you take me the way i am

if you are chilly, here take my sweater
your head is aching, i'll make it better
'cause i love the way you call me baby
and you take me the way i am

i'd buy you rogaine when you start losing all your hair
sew on patches to all you tear
'cause i love you more than i could ever promise
and you take me the way i am
you take me the way i am
you take me the way i am

thanks andy, for the song.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

i've always spoke of how i wanted to take risk. well, i am taking one now. there's no way to know for sure but i'm willing to take the gamble. maybe i've overthought it in the past, or just gave myself too many reasons to keep away from it. this time it feels different, perhaps it's because i'm not the only one who wants it to work out.

the best thing

hadh introduced a new indonesian band.. mocca. they do what i'd like to call 'happy music'. (:

i've got the best thing in the world
'cause i got you in my heart
in this cruel little world
let's hold hands together
we can share forever
maybe someday the sky will be coloured with our love

i wake in the morning feeling emptiness with our love
this pain is just too real
i dream about you with someone else
please say that you love me
that we'll never be apart

you have to promise that you'll be faithful
and there will be lots and lots of love
it is the thing that really matters in this world

i've got the best thing in the world
'cause i got you in my heart
in this cruel little world
let's hold hand together
we can share forever
maybe someday the sky will be coloured with our love

you have to promise that you'll be faithful
and there will be lots and lots of love
it is the thing that really matters in this world

not fair

new single by lily allen. cute music video, likes the farm theme and finds the back-up singers/dancers real amusing. also thinks that lily allen is hot in this video, especially as she moves to the music around the microphone and in her gorgeous heels.

make you feel my love

my second attempt at curry on monday. it was a HUGE success this time.. well, so i say. (:

we had leftovers.. so i had my curry with prata for lunch the next day. heh heh.

the weather is starting to change. and the coldest day always has to be wednesday.. woohoo, lucky me. we did dives today.. man, it's really my 'lucky' day. i was seriously dead scared, especially when we had to jump off the blocks. thank goodness we did it step by step.. like first sitting at the edge, then on one knee etc. my dives won't the most perfect.. i admit to creating mini-bellyflops. but when i jumped off the block the first time.. gosh, it was a major one! and it hurted like crap. the last one we did off the block was much better. in fact, i think it was almost perfect. but then again, that's just one good attempt out of 6 or 7? because of all the diving, my ears were blocked for the rest of the morning. dajie, i need your expertise in this area. if only you can swim with me... which reminds me, our swim instructor mentioned something today that made me want to cry. he said, "you'll be doing much more swimming next semester than you are this sem." seriously.. c'mon. poor me is going to have to freeze my ass off in the pool during winter mornings?! couldn't they pick some other sport like tennis, cricket or even footy.. *faints*

anyhoo.. it's mid sem week. results for exercise physiology is out.. and i did well. *beams* scored 25/30.. that's 83%. biomechanics test yesterday was alright buuuut.. my neuroanatomy lab exam today was erm.. not as good. the first thought that came to mind after seeing the first 10 questions was 'just take a gun and shoot me already.' and there were 50 specimens to cover! sigh.. this unit is what i call a big-time buang(car bang). only plus(if you even consider it one) is that the mid sem is only 10%.. so i've still got room to catch up. well.. i'm only left with econs paper on friday. pray it goes well.

i can't wait for the weekends.. and this weekend is a long one. hooray!

adele has a voice that makes me stop and listen.. and i like it when i get to pause everything just to enjoy life's simple pleasures.

when the rain is blowing in your face
and the whole world is on your case
i could offer you a warm embrace
to make you feel my love

when the evening shadows and the stars appear
and there is no one there to dry your tears
i could hold you for a million years
to make you feel my love

i know you haven't made your mind up yet
but i would never do you wrong
i've known it from the moment that we met
no doubt in my mind where you belong

i'd go hungry, i'd go black and blue
i'd go crawling down the avenue
no, there's nothing that i wouldn't do
to make you feel my love

the storms are raging on the rolling sea
and on the highway of regret
though winds of change are throwing wild and free
you ain't seen nothing like me yet

i could make you happy, make your dreams come true
nothing that i wouldn't do
go to the ends of the earth for you
to make you feel my love
to make you feel my love

i dreamed a dream

i've never watched les miserables.. but i always remembered dajie saying how lovely it was when she watched it at victoria concert hall. she was singing the songs for days on end.. i could even memorise 'castle on the cloud'. anyway, check out this lady. she sure gave one hell of a performance.

this isn't the actual musical.. but she still sounds angelic.

you might want to turn up the volume for this one.

i love the harp at the beginning of the piece.. just before the first stanza. (:

there was a time when men were kind
and their voices were soft
and their words were inviting
there was a time when love was blind
and the world was a song
and the song was exciting
there was a time it all went wrong

i dreamed a dream in time gone by
when hope was high and life worth living
i dreamed that love would never die
i dreamed that God would be forgiving

then i was young and unafraid
and dreams were made and used and wasted
there was no reason to be paid
no song unsung, no wine untasted

but the tigers come at night
with their voices soft as thunder
as they turn your hope apart
as they turn your dreams to shame

he slept a summer by my side
he filled my days with endless wonder
he took my childhood in his stride
but he was gone when autumn came

and i still dreamed he'd come to me
that we would live the years together
but there are dreams that cannot be
and there are storms we cannot weather

i had a dream my life would be
so different from the hell i'm living
so different now from what i seemed
now life has killed the dream i dreamed

lost

just because i'm losing
doesn't mean i'm lost
doesn't mean i'll stop
doesn't mean i will cross

just because i'm hurting
doesn't mean i'm hurt
doesn't mean i didn't get what i deserve
no better and no worse

i just got lost
every river that i try to cross
every door i ever tried was locked
oh and i'm just waiting till the shine wears off

you might be a big fish
in a little pond
doesn't mean you've won
'cause along may come a bigger one

and you'll be lost
every river that you tried to cross
every gun you ever held went off
oh and i'm just waiting till the firing stops
oh and i'm just waiting till the shine wears off

oh and i'm just waiting till the shine wears off
oh and i'm just waiting till the shine wears off

(you'll notice that the members ran off the stage straight after the song. it's because they're running to the audience stand to perform the next segment. i'd know.. i was there. (: )

they performed this song really well.. even though it's a really old song.
one of my favourites of the night.

'cementries of london'

'42'

'strawberry swing'

'fix you'. the next favourite of the night.

'god put a smile on your face'

chris martin did a solo for 'hardest part'.

'viva la vida'! another favourite of the night.

the timpanis. it was just like in the mtv.. lovely!

'lost' & 'speed of sound'

performing 'green eyes' in the midst of the crowd.

this one was special. after 'speed of sound', all the members left the stage and walked towards the stands. they went up to the seats along the left slope and started picking up their guitars and mics. very nice acoustics for this segment.. i thought it was brilliant. oh, remember the ball thingy hanging from the ceiling in one of the photos before? it's actually a spherical projection. cool huh?!

'politik'

he's very good on the piano.

'lovers in japan'

i can't remember which song this was..

but this part was super fun.. because of all the confetti. (:

they even glow in the dark.

the final 2 encore songs...

'scientist'

this is pow's favourite coldplay song. he was waiting for it the whole time. lucky they "saved the best for last".

a short clip i took when the song was ending.

'life in technicolour'

the end.

i don't think i listed all the songs they performed.. but i'm just glad they did many previous hits. pity they didn't do 'what if' or 'sparks'. the concert started at around 9pm. by the time it ended.. it was 10.45pm. despite the long wait listening to opening acts (decoder ring and mercury rev - whose music i cannot appreciate), the 90 minutes with coldplay on stage was definitely worth it. yay to pow, who survived his first concert..

thanks 亲爱的, for being such a sport. really appreciate your company. (:
