over the years, i have come to accumulate stuff on my 'food ban' list. these things which i have instructed myself never to partake of are on the list due to one reason or another.
kristy's food BAN:
1. durian
2. shark's fin
3. bird's nest
4. coke
durians are obvious. those who know me would by now figure how much i detest them. chance was given but it disappointed.
shark's fin and bird's nest ended up on the list because of one lady, miss jessica tan. she was a trainee teacher who taught me in primary 3 and i consider her one of the most brilliant woman i know. she would probably never know what an impact she's made on my life. during lesson one day, she shared with us why she doesn't eat shark's fin and bird's nest. her words came out so strongly, i almost felt angry at myself for being so ignorant. people catch sharks, chop off their fins and throw them back into the sea to die. not to mention harvesting swallow's saliva, out of which they build their nests. so the swallows will keep spitting to build new homes for their babies until a point whereby they spit blood. she only told us a simple story but that was enough to make me think.
coke the most recent addition. all i can say is 'thanks miss ho'. hockey was quite a big part of me in jc. sort of the thing that made me feel 'pioneer' and want to work hard to complete A's and graduate. miss ho is one inspirational coach.. the sort who will make you want to give it all you can during training and games. she helped me see my potential and worked with it.. i wouldn't think i could have understood so much if it weren't for her.. she definitely made me a better team player and also a better person. oh dear.. i do realise i'm getting carried away. pardon me on that. well, like i was saying.. coke ended up on the list because miss ho said so. it was during the period before championships that training was total madness. miss ho gave us a list of things that we weren't allowed to eat until season was over.. stuff like gassy drinks or those that contains lots of caffeine, fried food.. i can't remember now, but basically our rights to enjoy glorious food was forfeited. still all in all, it was worth it.
